Disney Cruise Line, Key West
What’s it really like on a Disney Cruise? Is it as good as everyone says?
To find out we booked a 4-day Bahamian cruise departing from Miami in February, calling at Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island in the Bahamas) and a day at Key West.
Shortly after booking directly with Disney Cruise Line we received our Planning Guides in the post, and so the excitement began…

Then a week before we departed my six year old son received a very special ‘Character Call’ from Mickey Mouse telling my son how excited he and all the other characters were about his forthcoming trip.
Soon it was time to fix our Disney Magic luggage labels to our cases, book a taxi from our South Beach hotel to Miami Port, and board the wonderful Disney Magic cruise line.

Upon boarding the Disney staff made a special personalised announcement to every family.
The ship was immaculate – stylish with lots of Disney attention to detail, spotlessly clean, super organised and equipped with lots of fun-packed facilities including three swimming pools and water slides.
As the ship departed “When you wish upon a star…” was played from its horn and then the Sail Away party began on deck. 🙂

We loved meeting Mickey…
And Spider-Man…

The Mary Poppins soundtrack played in the stateroom corridors, where we passed lovingly decorated doors.
Inside our stateroom each day there were surprises waiting for us – Disney chocoloates, pirate accessories, chocolate coins… as well as our daily Navigator – the guide to everything on board the ship. There’s so much to do, we needed the Navigator to keep us organised.
Feel like staying in your state-room and relaxing? TVs inside the state-rooms show every Disney movie imaginable.
I loved the attention to detail of the restaurants’ decor, and the food was great too – a wide range of dishes from many different nations including the Caribbean, Asia and France.
The Animator’s Palate was our favourite restaurant because of its creativity and ambience, changing from a black and white theme to a full-colour theme by the time main course arrived. Even the waiting staff’s waistcoats changed colour.
The Pirate Party was explosive with fireworks at sea.
Broadway-calibre shows are held in a beautiful theatre each evening and are fantastic, we weren’t allowed to take any photos, but the shows were definitely a highlight.
The impressively-designed cinema showing your favourite latest Disney releases was great too, we watched Moana.
Kids have so much fun with two kids’ pools, the Oceaneer’s Kids Club, the Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutique (for dressing up as your favourite princess), make-your-own ice cream cone stations and a fantastic selection of food, drinks and snacks available throughout the day. My son enjoyed making new friends. Brantley and Ben:
The sailing was so calm that you wouldn’t know you were on the move. The views from our port hole and up on deck were great.
Our 4-day Bahamian cruise called in at Castaway Cay and Key West. Would we recommend a Disney Magic cruise? Absolutely!
