Every wát (Thai temple) in Bangkok has a Buddha sculpture, don’t miss these wáts for some of the most impressive:
- Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha)
- Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of Emerald Buddha)
- Wat Traimit (Temple of Golden Buddha)
Even if you don’t manage a trip to a wát (a compound of different buildings that serve specific religious functions) you’ll see many Buddha sculptures around the city – inside taxis, hotels, shops, spas and restaurants.
The Buddha symbol serves to remind us to ‘experience our life, become aware of our capabilities and intensify our perception’.
So while a trip by tuk tuk through Bangkok’s chaotic streets itself might not result in achieving the desired state of nirvana, it will lead you to some very impressive temples. Who knew that tuk tuk trip might take you one trip closer to enlightenment. 😉
