Jerusalem is a multifaceted city of religion – Christianity, Islam, Judaism – as well as a city of buzzing nightclubs playing electronic music, shopping centres, lovely restaurants and the beautiful Old Town.
Made up of two sections – east and west – West Jerusalem is controlled by Israel. East Jerusalem is ruled by Israel and made up of Palestinian communities and Israeli settlements. Jerusalem is considered one of the oldest cities in the world.
At its centre is the old city of Jerusalem and its fortified walls. The Western Wall, or the ‘Wailing Wall’, is one of the most sacred and important sites of Judaism. A place of emotions where pilgrims post prayers, wishes and thanks on slips of paper into cracks in the wall. The Dome of the Rock and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre are important landmarks too.
I enjoyed the warm atmosphere of the city, discovering the people, the food (especially the falafel), the culture, the history and the beautiful sand-coloured stone buildings.

My first view of beautiful Jerusalem was at sunrise when the pink-tinged sky cast soft, warm colours on this beautiful city.
